My 8 steps to Getting Hitched
Look, standing up there and saying "I do" is massive, but wading through the legalities and paperwork needed to get you to the altar can feel like a total headache. As a registered marriage celebrant working right across Perth, my job is to sort out the boring government paperwork and build a ceremony that actually sounds like you, not some dry lecture that puts your guests to sleep.
These are the exact eight steps to getting hitched over here, keeping things straightforward, legally sound, and completely stress-free.
Seamless Ceremony Process by Mark Your Ceremony
-
First up, let’s see if we actually get along. Drop me a line and we will book in a quick chat to see if we are a good match for the big day.
-
We will grab a coffee somewhere local or jump on a video call to talk about what you are chasing for your ceremony. This first catch-up is completely obligation-free.
If you reckon I am the right celebrant for the job, we lock it in:
You pay a $200 deposit to secure your date, with the rest sorted 14 days before the wedding.
We get the legal paperwork moving by filling out your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). Australian law says this must be lodged at least one full month before you walk down the aisle.
I will tell you exactly what IDs you need to show me, get the details of your story, and throw around some ideas for poems, timing, and unique rituals.
-
This is where we pull your custom ceremony together. You can write as much of it as you want, or hand the writing over to me entirely. We will workshop the drafts together until you are 100% happy and the whole thing is locked in well before the day.
-
Once the script is done, it is time to practice. Heading to your venue or a convenient spot to run through where to stand and how to hold the microphone is the easiest way to shake off any nerves.
We also sign a final legal declaration at the rehearsal. If you want to skip the rehearsal completely, that is totally fine, we can just knock over that last bit of paperwork on the wedding morning before everyone arrives.
-
When the day rolls around, your only job is to enjoy it. I will show up early to coordinate with your vendors, set up the PA system, and make sure your photographer and venue crew are on the same page. I handle the logistics so you do not have to think about a thing.
-
This is the moment. I deliver your ceremony, keeping your guests smiling while ticking off every single requirement of the Marriage Act 1961. You will say your legal vows out loud so your witnesses and I can hear them, sign the registry books, and make it official.
-
While you head off to grab a drink, mingle, and take your photos, I look after the legal backend. I will officially lodge your signed marriage documents with the Western Australia Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages within 14 days of the wedding to get you registered.
-
Once the registry has processed everything, I will check back in to see how you are tracking. I will also send over the exact links and instructions you need to order your official certificate and sort out the legal name change process if you are going down that path.
